Her son has a staph infection called Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus, or MRSA, which is resistant to many antibiotics. A common bacteria called Staphylococcus aureus typically causes skin infections, such as pimples and boils but also can cause more serious problems, such as bloodstream infections or pneumonia. Capac Superintendent Jerry Jennex said Friday three students from the school did have MRSA infections. The school sent out a letter last week to parents about it and brought in extra staff to help clean the school. In the nearly two weeks between when her son contracted the infection and the school let people know, he had attended several track meets, been in school and around his family. She said the health department has worked with staff at Capac and other area schools to teach them more about the infections. read more
