Lehman Brothers analyst Richard Silver reaffirmed a “Equal Weight” rating with a $32 price target, citing increasing competition for dermal fillers — used to treat wrinkles — and generic competition for the acne treatment Solodyn. The Food and Drug Administration recently rejected Medicis’ dermal filler Reloxin, citing an incomplete application. Citi analyst Andrew Swanson took a similar position, reaffirming a “Hold” rating and a $22 price target. Meanwhile, RBC Capital Markets analyst Ken Trbovich reaffirmed a “Outperform” rating with a $30 price target, brushing off concerns over Reloxin. read more

Revenue rose 42 percent to $140. Analysts polled by Thomson Financial expected profit of 43 cents per share on revenue of about $129. Sales of acne treatments, which include Solodyn, Triaz and Ziana, rose 22 percent to $79. Other products and contract revenue rose 72 percent to $13. Shares of Medicis Pharmaceutical rose 23 cents to $20 in after-hours trading after falling 33 cents to close at $19. Acne sufferers ’shun exercise’ (Channel 4)- Topic: Acne News

A study by the University of Bath claims those with acne fail to participate in sport out of shyness - or 'dermatological social anxiety'. The study, published in the Journal of Health Psychology, involved 50 young to middle-aged adults recruited from a national acne support group. Acne sufferers who saw their skin problems as a negative thing, also experienced lower self-esteem and a poorer quality of life, the study found. The researchers claim 'dermatological social anxiety' is often overlooked in studies on motivation for sport and exercise in favour of physical inhibitions. read more
